The day started at 5:30 am, when I was the first to get up. Harley left the night before with his faithful watchers, Trude and Frida. He's surely a happy camper right now, getting some much needed attention from them. Arnt's parents were visiting the last few days, and we all headed to the airport at the same time. After checking in, and getting a much needed cup of coffee, we headed our seperate directions, us to AMERICA, and them to their apartment in Turkey. Things went without a hitch all day really, and I can't say it enough, how INCREDIBLE my little Eirik is. He's sitting right beside me, on our last flight of the day, in to Kansas City, after being stuck on one airplane or another for a total of 13 hours...and he's STILL sitting. Granted, he's watching Lightning McQueen on his DVD player, WAIT... I take that back, he just conked out... :)
But then again, it IS after midnight our time. He's done so great. Not one tantrum. He's my little globe trotter. This is his 23rd or 24th flight, I've lost count. And the connections in Oslo and then in Newark went very smoothly. Right before we left, we'd seen an article on VG.no saying that Newark Liberty Airport's Immigration area was not very friendly at all, and being that this airport is the 5th busiest in the US, we were prepared for something to get ugly. BUT, we got to border control and there wasn't a soul in sight! The place was empty, and we got right through, and the officer helping us was surprising VERY nice. Eirik's sweet gleaming smile might have done the trick, once again! :)
Anyway, to summarize the rest of the evening, we got off our last flight, and were greeted by my brother Joe and his little boy, Anthony. All of our suitcases got there (that was a first!) and we picked up our rental car (Chevy Impala) and got back to Joe’s for a home cooked meal of pork tenderloins, green beans and mac n cheese, that Nicole had waiting for us. Eirik, Anthony and Trinity got acquainted again by jumping on our bed, that Joe and Nicole had set up for us. Eirik conked out about 9pm, or 4am Norway time, so you can imagine how exhausted he was. We called it a night about 10:30pm. Eirik woke up at 4:30am, so we cuddled, looked at pictures from our trip on my cell phone, and watched Disney’s Cars on his DVD player until we heard the rest of the house wake up, at about 7:30am. Then we started our day, jetlagged, with Joe’s famous pancakes and eggs. The rest of the day we’ve just been playing outside in the beautiful weather, sunny and 65F. FANTASTIC! I see the SUN! Has the sun started shining in Trøndelag yet? ;) I did sneak away a little bit today and met Andi and two of her kids at Kohl’s while they were shopping, to say hi and give some hugs, and then I went to the Independence Center to get my local cell phone activated and do a little shopping (Old Navy to get Eirik some new clothes, and I looked a little at boots).
Home again, and going to have homemade chili for dinner. We’re having a ball watching the kids play. More tomorrow…
Hugs, Aimee, Arnt and Eirik
